28 Indonesian illegal immigrants held off Sabak Bernam

SHAH ALAM, Sept 19 — General Operations Force (GOF) personnel arrested 28 Indonesians, 14 of them women, in an operation at the Sungai Apong coast in Sabak Bernam on Thursday as they attempted to sneak into the country.

Semenyih GOF 4th Battalion commanding officer Superintendent Zulafendy Hassan said the personnel also held two Indonesian men aged 50 and 59, who are permanent residents, in the operation carried out at about 6am.

"We arrested 14 men aged between 25 and 43 and 14 women aged between 20 and 53. An initial investigation showed that they had been dropped by a boat off the coast and were being assisted by the two permanent residents to sneak into the country,” he said in a statement yesterday.

He also said that two MPVs and a car were also seized in the raid.

The Indonesians and the vehicles were brought to the Sungai Air Tawar Police Station in Sabak Bernam, he said, adding that action will be taken against the intruders under the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 and the Immigration Act 1963.
