SHAH ALAM, Aug 10 — A total of 5,941 indigenous people or Orang Asal in Selangor are to benefit from the state’s second economic stimulus package, Selangor Care Package 2.0, following the impact from the Covid-19 pandemic.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said that the Orang Asal are given due recognition and that the state gives particular attention to the welfare of the indigenous group.
“Those that would benefit include the people of the Temuan and Mahmeri tribes, and others in 74 villages.
“We should always remember the important role they play in shaping the identity and honouring the spirit of Selangor Darul Ehsan,” he said in conjunction with the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples, yesterday.
Selangor had in its economic stimulus package announced on April 1 allocated RM297,050 to benefit some 22,992 Orang Asli community statewide.
The funds will aid in terms of daily needs, such as rice, flour, sugar, milk and cooking oil that amounts to RM50 per household.
