Economy will keep moving even if MCO reimplemented, says MB

SETIA ALAM, July 27 — The economic sector in Selangor would be able to keep moving ue to the ease of internet access in the city areas, even if the movement control order (MCO) has to be implemented once again.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, however, said the measure to break the chain of Covid-19 infection does result in negative repercussions to the economy.

“We are fortunate as Selangor is equipped with infrastructure facilities, such as extensive internet network.

“We have proven that the economy kept moving during the previous MCO,” said Amirudin after the launch of the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) Publicity and Public Participation programme for the MBSA Local Plan Draft 2035 at the Setia City Convention Centre, here today.

The Federal government had enforced the nationwide MCO on March 18, which had restricted various economic and social sectors from operating, with exceptions to several crucial services.

Several sectors were allowed to resume operations beginning May 4 under the conditional MCO (CMCO), which was then followed by the enforced recovery MCO (RMCO) beginning June 10 till August 31.

On July 20, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said reclosing the economic sector could result in the country suffering an estimated RM2 billion losses a day.
