SHAH ALAM, July 23 — State Entrepreneur, Rural, Village and Traditional Village Development Committee chairman Rodziah Ismail has encouraged individuals who lost their job during the movement control order (MCO) to venture into online businesses.

Rodziah said this is the best move for them to increase their income especially during the Covid-19 pandemic but had advised them to have basic knowledge in business.

“The state government cares about the people who needed fast income after losing jobs due to the coronavirus pandemic, yet they are advised to take the first step by doing business digitally.

“Although I do not encourage them to sell on the sidewalk, yet if there is a need, they should apply for licenses from the local authority to avoid unnecessary risks,” said Rodziah to SelangorKini.

A Social Security Organisation (Socso) report showed individuals who lost their job increased to 42 per cent in the first quarter of this year.

The unemployment rate is expected to hit 4 per cent in 2020 compared to 3.2 per cent during the Asia financial crisis in 1997 and 3.7 per cent in the economic downturn in 2018.
