MB: Three areas in Selangor identified for anti-drug pilot project

SHAH ALAM, July 23 — The Selangor government has selected three areas in the state to address the drug abuse issues in an anti-drug pilot project.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the locations identified for the programme are Petaling Jaya Selatan, Bagan Sungai Besar and Felda Hulu Selangor.

“These are the initial focus areas in addressing the drug problems not only for the addicts but also for distributors and drug networks.

“Different formats are applied to these three areas. If the methods are successful, then we will apply it in other areas as well,” he said after chairing the State Government Agency Special Task Force meeting on addressing the drug problems in Selangor, here yesterday.

Amirudin, who is also the chairman of the Selangor Malaysian Drug Prevention Association (Pemadam), said the locations were selected last year based on the high number of drug addiction and abuse recorded.

“Although Selangor is the lowest state with the highest number of drug cases with a ratio of 200 people out of 100,000, the people remain committed to curbing the problem.

“This effort requires the cooperation from all agencies including the youths and school students,” he said.
