MOE: Schools to reopen in stages beginning July 15

SHAH ALAM, July 1 — The Education Ministry has today announced the reopening of schools to be carried out in stages beginning July 15.

Education Minister Dr Mohd Radzi Md Jidin said Form One to Four students, Year Five and Six pupils, Form Six Semester 1 as well as remove class students will return back to school on July 15.

As for Year One to Four pupils, he said classes will resume on July 22.

“Co-curricular and sports activities, however, are still not allowed. The schools will reopen only for the resumption of lessons,” said Mohd Radzi during a live telecast today.

He said all private schools and educational institutions registered with the ministry can also reopen on July 15.

He said the ministry had recommended three models of operation — single, two and rotational sessions — for the reopening of schools.

He said Model 1 would allow schools that are able to accommodate their students in one session to operate as usual.

Model 2 proposes for a dual session for the schools that are not able to accommodate all of its students in one session, while Model 3 would be on a rotational basis, which Mohd Radzi said would be the final option.

“Rotational basis at secondary schools would apply for Form One to Four students as Form Five and Six students are required to attend school on a daily basis.

“The schools will determine the best model to be applied based on the students’ needs,” he said.

On June 24, students sitting for public examinations and equivalent international examinations had returned back to school.

This had involved 500,444 examination class students in 2,440 schools throughout the country.

The closure of schools due to the Covid-19 pandemic had caused 5.7 million students to have been unable to attend school for almost four months.
