State govt aims 30 pct women participation in leadership, policymaking

SHAH ALAM, June 30 — Selangor will continue towards achieving the 30 per cent target to see the participation of women at policy and decision making-levels, particularly in the public sector, says the State Health, Welfare, Women Empowerment and Family Committee chairman.

Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud said this is achievable as almost 25 per cent of those in the state government council meeting were women under the Pakatan Harapan leadership.

“To ease the process, the administration or officers in the agencies or state government departments have to be exposed to the understanding of gender diversity.

“Some of our efforts include the Women's Leadership Academy (AKW) initiative, which is an incentive programme on skill and talent enhancement to have more leaders in politics and social works,” she told SelangorKini yesterday.

Dr Siti Mariah said the Women2Win programme was also initiated to bring out more young women talent and prepare them on the involvement in the next general election.

She said a structured and consistent capacity building programme at the grassroots level would be able to enhance women's competency through leadership and education.
