SHAH ALAM, June 4 — A total of 2,250 Covid-19 samples were taken from three neighbourhoods under the semi-enhance movement control order (SEMCO) in Kuala Langat, which began on May 30.
District officer Mohd Jusni Hashim said the testing operation involved 1,499 Malaysians and 751 foreigners, with an estimated 9,000 residents in total.
“The daily mass screening operation had started on May 30 and the programme is expected to complete on Friday (tomorrow),” he said on a Facebook post yesterday.
The SEMCO was implemented in Taman Langat Utama, Taman Langat Murni and Taman Langat Murni 2 in Bukit Changgang, after 24 cleaning workers at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) were found positive for Covid-19 on May 28.
Twenty of them lived in Kuala Langat while the remaining four in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan.
A total of 114 Bangladesh nationals were identified as close contacts with the 24 foreigners tested positive.
Samples have been taken from the close contacts and they have been isolated at the Judicial and Legal Training Institute (ILKAP) and the Islamic Training Institute of Malaysia (ILIM) in Bangi since May 29.
The two-week SEMCO took effect yesterday until June 16 and is the largest area in the country to date, which covers 43.3 ha with a perimeter of 4,100 metres.
