AMPANG JAYA, June 2 — Selangor has allocated RM500,000 to strengthen the Sungai Sering riverbank in Jalan Kelab Ukay 4, Bukit Antarabangsa, following a landslide incident on May 30, says state executive councillor Izham Hashim.

The State Public Amenities, Agricultural Modernisation and Agro-based Industry Committee chairman said this is to curb soil movement at the riverbank, which would obstruct the river flow and pose a danger to the houses in the area.

“However, the residents do not have to worry as the situation is still under control and monitored by the authorities twice a day.

“The Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) is also conducting a study on the soil movement to ensure that the incident is not repeated,” he said after surveying the landslide location in here today.

Following the incident at 2.21am on Saturday, some 40 residents from seven double-storey terraced houses in Taman Kelab Ukay were ordered to vacate their homes.

Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari had also surveyed the affected location and temporarily placed the residents at the Hotel de’ Palma in Ampang for seven days for free, while the Housing and Local Government Ministry finds them rental homes.

The ministry had also allocated RM2 million for the cost of repairs, which includes building a retaining wall. The repair works are expected to take about six months.
