SHAH ALAM, May 21 — The Selangor government is waiting for the green light from the National Security Council (NSC) to allow its athletes to resume their training for the 20th Malaysia Games (Sukma), which is scheduled to be held in Johor, March next year.

Selangor Youth, Sports Development and Human Resource Development Committee chairman Mohd Khairuddin Othman said at present, training is held individually at home during throughout the movement control order period.

“We will wait for the decision from NSC but at the same time, we are continuously in touch with the athletes and coaches.

“They are still being paid for their allowances as many of them are still training on their own in the new normal to keep up their momentum,” said Khairuddin at the Aidilfitri contributions programme for former Selangor athletes and para-athletes at the Selangor State Sports Council (MSN) here today.

Previously, Sukma 2020 was scheduled to be held from July 11 to 19, while the Para Sukma Games from August 16 to 22.

However, the Youth and Sports Ministry had postponed both events due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Selangor had registered 830 athletes for the biennial national games and had aimed to bring home 45 gold, 40 silver, and 40 bronze medals.
