SHAH ALAM, May 21 — A total of 216 traders and workers in the Kajang market were screened for Covid-19 as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, says the Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj).

Its public relation officer Kamarul Izlan Sulaiman said the programme was held in collaboration with the Hulu Langat District Health Office on May 18, at the MPKj Saujana Impian Seri Cempaka Hall.

"All traders and workers are required to undergo this screening before they are allowed to work or conduct business again.

"We are still waiting for the results from the Health Ministry (MOH)," he told SelangorKini when contacted last night.

Kamarul Izlan said the market has been under temporary closure beginning yesterday for cleaning and disinfection operations and will remain closed until further notice.

"We are aware that the Hari Raya is around the corner and people need to purchase goods, but at the moment, the safety of the public is our priority," he added.

Previously, four public markets were closed after being linked to the Kuala Lumpur Wholesale Market cluster.

These include the Jalan Othman and Taman Megah markets in Selangor, as well as Jalan Chow Kit market in Kuala Lumpur and Bahau market in Negeri Sembilan.
