AirAsia to roll out contactless procedures

KUALA LUMPUR, May 13 — AirAsia Group Bhd will be implementing several contactless procedures for essential travels as well as enhanced features on its mobile app to help ensure a smooth and safe travel experience for its passengers.

In a statement today, the airline said it has set up contactless payment options including payWave payment systems like AliPay and WeChat Pay at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (klia2), which will be gradually expanded to other airports.

To ensure a full contactless check-in process, it said contactless kiosks are available at all operating airports across Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia and Japan from today, where guests can print their boarding pass and baggage tag after checking-in online on airasia.com or via the mobile app.

The group said the PRS allows guests to scan their boarding pass, adding that the system will also be available at klia2 and will be expanded to other airports in Malaysia where AirAsia operates.

AirAsia said it has also digitised the boarding process by scanning all boarding passes at the boarding gate instead of collecting stubs from physical ones.

“AirAsia’s mobile app will also see an enhancement later this month where guests can scan their passports via the app itself, facilitating more streamlined user experience and a seamless and contactless self-check-in process.

“There are also plans to progressively add other features such as travel visa scanning capabilities in the near future,” the airline said.

Chief operations officer Javed Malik said in addition to the existing strict safety measures on-ground, such as social distancing markers and wearing personal protective equipment, the contactless procedures would provide a more secure, safe, efficient, and contactless experience for guests.

“The safety of our guests and Allstars is our utmost priority and these additional enhancements demonstrate our continued commitment to keeping flying safe in the new normal environment for air travel,” he added.
