SHAH ALAM, April 28 — The Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) has called for Muslims couples who wish to get married during the movement control order (MCO) to file in their application for the special approval by April 30.
In a statement on Facebook today, the religious department said applications that are submitted after April 30 will only be processed from May 7 to 12 so that the arrangements for the marriage solemnisation ceremonies via video conferencing can be done before Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
“This is to ensure that the technical preparations run smoothly at the District Islamic Religious Offices.
“However, the application will be closed immediately once the MCO is lifted. We will update on the post-MCO akad nikah procedures from time to time,” the statement read.
Couples are also advised to discuss the matter with family members before proceeding with the application.
Jais had received 456 applications to marry during the MCO, where 387 were approved and 179 couples have carried out the solemnisation ceremony via video conferencing.
On April 20, Jais director Mohd Shahzihan Ahmad said Muslim couples wanting to get married in Selangor can have their marriage solemnisation ceremony done via video conferencing, subject to special approval from the department.
Prior to this decision, all marriage solemnisation ceremonies in the state had been postponed due to the MCO.
