SHAH ALAM, April 9 — Among two of the identified Covid-19 clusters involving mass gathering events, namely the church gathering in Kuching, Sarawak, and a wedding ceremony in Bandar Baru Bangi, saw an increase in the total number of cases.
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said as of noon yesterday, two new Covid-19 cases were recorded from the wedding cluster, bringing the total cases to 94.
Fifteen recoveries were registered from the cluster and five patients are being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
"The remaining 74 cases are being treated in the general ward," he said on his official Facebook account today.
Meanwhile, the cluster involving the Kuching religious assembly registered 24 new cases, pushing the total tally to 112.
Dr Noor Hisham said 11 cases from the cluster have recovered and discharged.
"Four cases are being cared for in the ICU and 48 cases are receiving treatment in the general ward," he said, adding that 47 cases are placed in quarantine and two deaths were recorded.
On April 6, the Health Ministry had identified the two clusters to be among the largest clusters linked to large gatherings after the Sri Petaling assembly in Sri Petaling Kuala Lumpur.
To date, Malaysia has recorded 4,119 positive Covid-19 cases, with 1,487 cases fully recovered and 65 deaths.
