SELAYANG, April 4 — The procedure or guideline for Muslim marriages or akad nikah (solemnisation) in Selangor require the consent of the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, who is head of Islam in the state.

Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari had addressed the issue following the recommendations made by the Health Ministry that the public is advised to avoid mass gatherings for the next six months to one year, even if the movement control order (MCO) is no longer in place.

“At the same time, the state government will refer the matter to the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) and the mufti.

“We will also get the views of experts in Syariah and matrimonial matters (munakahat),” said Amirudin after distributing aid to the frontliners at the Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) here today.

He said the state government will also look into several approaches to avoid mass gathering of people, such as wedding feasts.

“The people cannot continue on with their lives as they did before and must avoid mass gatherings to ensure the virus is contained,” he said.

Previously, Jais had suspended solemnisation ceremonies in the state until the end of the MCO on April 14.
