Childcare incentive to provide income for babysitters

SHAH ALAM, April 3 — The Selangor government has provided financial support to childcare centres that look after the children of parents in the frontline to help the babysitters who face a loss of income during the movement control order (MCO) period.

State executive councillor Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud said many babysitters have lost their source of income due to the closure of childcare centres until the MCO ends on April 14.

She said the initiative would lift some of the financial burdens as some of the sitters would be able to earn up to RM600 in two months by looking after two children.

“Some of the childcare centres face problems in paying the salary of their babysitters, especially in the months of April, therefore the state government is helping the sitters while at the same time provide childcare services to parents in the frontline,” she told SelangorKini yesterday.

Dr Siti Mariah said 2,500 families with children below the age of 12 would benefit from the RM1.5million allocated funds.

The State Health, Welfare, Women Empowerment and Family Committee chairman said the selection of the families is vetted through by the head of departments in identifying parents who are working in the frontline.

She added that RM1,000 will also be given to Covid-19 patients in the state to help alleviate the burden faced by the patients and their family members.
