SHAH ALAM, April 1 — The random exercise of disinfection operations targetted on roads and open spaces should be avoided in order to reserve the limited resources, says Selangor state executive councillor.

State Infrastructure and Public Amenities, Agriculture Modernisation and Agro-based Industry Committee chairman Izham Hashim said the focus should be given in areas that have positive Covid-19 cases or identified as a red zone area.

“The limited sources we have, such as face masks and disinfecting liquid, should be given to the public as many of them are lacking these items. If we need to carry out disinfection operations, we should do it in areas that have positive Covid-19 cases.

“Everyone should be reminding one another in such critical moment and not only make political statements,” he said in a Facebook post, yesterday.

Several reports have cited health experts that the disinfection process on roads is ineffective and is a waste of resources.

Member of the special committee to audit Covid-19, Datuk Dr Christopher Lee, who is also an infectious disease specialist, had on Twitter said disinfecting roads would not to be impactful.

He added that it is a waste of resources and man-hours and had called for the operations to be carried out based on evidence.
