MOH to issue guidelines on disinfection process

PUTRAJAYA, April 1 — The Health Ministry (MOH) will issue guidelines and advice on the right way to carry out decontamination process, said Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

He said the ministry would liaise with the Housing and Local Government Ministry, as well as district council offices, on the matter.

"MOH will see how the decontamination process can be implemented in accordance with the ministry’s standard operating procedure (SOP).

"Among the things to be considered in the MOH guidelines is (the use of) chemicals that are approved by the World Health Organisation (WHO)," he told a daily media conference on the Covid-19 outbreak here yesterday.

Dr Noor Hisham said this when asked to comment on statements by several parties in questioning the implementation of the decontamination process being carried out by the local authorities since last Monday.

He said the decontamination process at public places, such as the market, since last Monday was carried out ahead of the guideline to be issued by the ministry.

On the opening of the Ramadan bazaar this year, he said, it could be allowed by following the stipulated SOP to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

They include maintaining the cleanliness of the stalls, controlling the number of people at the bazaar and exercise social distancing, and food handlers to maintain a high level of self-hygiene.

"We (MOH) will advise them on what or what not to do, just like the implementation for pasar tani (farmers’ market)," he added.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, at a press conference yesterday, said the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama) is setting up centres for sale of fresh produce at 97 locations nationwide to reduce congestion at wet markets.

They include at selected farmers’ markets, MyFarm outlets, Fama operation centres and area farmers' associations (PPK).
