Bukit Jalil National Stadium to host Selangor-Perak match

KUALA LUMPUR, March 3 — The Bukit Jalil National Stadium will be the venue for the clash between the Red Giants and Perak in the Super League action on Saturday.

The Football Association of Selangor (FAS) in a statement on its official Twitter page yesterday announced this as a move to ensure the safety of supporters and players following the damaged roof at Shah Alam Stadium.

According to FAS, the decision to use the Bukit Jalil National Stadium is only for the match against Perak.

"It was not an easy decision for the management of the Selangor team, but it was a unanimous decision by the stakeholders and the responsible body.

"Right now this decision is only for Selangor's first home game. We will continue with efforts to ensure that Shah Alam Stadium is safe to use for the home game against Sarawak United," the statement said.

Yesterday, the Malaysian Football League (MFL) confirmed that Shah Alam Stadium, with its roof damaged, was one of two stadiums including Petaling Jaya City Council Stadium (MBPJ) which did not have its approval to be the venues for this year's Malaysia League (M-League) matches.

Constructed in 1994 and able to accommodate up to 80,000 spectators, the safety aspects of the stadium is currently unsatisfactory after the first security inspection on January 10 followed by the second inspection (February 21) and the third last Friday.

Meanwhile, MBPJ Stadium, which hosts PJ City FC, could not be used following the upgrading works being carried out at the stadium.

FAS has also said that Darul Ehsan Facilities Management (DEFM) which manages Shah Alam Stadium and the Selangor state government are currently planning short and long-term strategies to prevent such problems recurring in the future.

"We would like to apologise if this venue change interferes with your plan, but we are committed to bringing the 'home' venue back to Shah Alam Stadium soon," it said.
