SUBANG JAYA - Sunway Hotel and Resort networks launches a #SunwaySoapful awareness campaign to recycle used soap for environmental benefits.
Sunway Hotel & Resort Regional Senior Manager, Kelly Leong said this is because the soap used in hotels are often thrown away to the garbage disposal site, where it can still be used.
She said a total of 1,000 bar soap collected since July was recycled and handed over to the Malaysian Orphanage Welfare Organization (PKAYDEM).
"We are committed to seeking soap processing initiatives so that they can be reused.
"In addition, this campaign is also helping the less fortunate and sharpening skills, especially the orphans to learn how to process soap," she said.
Leong was speaking at the Sunway Soapful Launching Ceremony at Sunway Hotel & Resort here today.
Also present at the ceremony was the Raja Muda Selangor, Duli Yang Teramat Mulia (DYTM), Tengku Amir Shah.
According to Leong, the soap was taken from five Sunway hotel hotels including Sunway Putra Hotel, Velocity Hotel, Sunway Hotel Georgetown, Sunway Hotel Seberang Jaya and The Banjaran Hotsprings Retreat.
At the same time, she said, orphanages from (PKAYDEM) were also given the skills to learn the soap making process in collaboration with the project partner, Ecolab Sdn Bhd and Kinder Soaps Sdn Bhd.
"We are optimistic that these skills can generate their income to run soap manufacturing business, in the future," said Leong.
