SHAH ALAM, AUG 28: The State Government is planning to expand KDEB Waste Management Sdn Bhd’s (KDEBWM) operation and management into other Local Authority areas.

Local Government, New Village Development and Illegal Factory Legalisation Exco, Ean Yong Hian Wah said, the Menteri Besar Incorporated’s (MBI) subsidiary is seen as being successful in managing solid waste since it started last July 2016.

He said, it also reduced complaints from residents by up to 90 percent.

“We shall implement the plan for KDEBWM to take over from other local authorities in managing solid waste, be it domestic waste or general cleaning for a more systematic and efficient service.

“This is in respond to citizens’ satisfaction survey which is improving, however the State Government will focus more on cleaning, public infrastructure and crime prevention,” he said to SelangorKini.

A survey was done by Merdeka Centre last January 23 to June 29, which found that 72 percent or 8,640 respondents, representing Selangor citizens, expressed satisfaction on the State Government and their local authorities’ achievements.

In July 2016, KDEBWM started taking over solid waste management in Klang Municipal Council (MPK) with 800 complaints and reduced it to only 7 complaints last June.

Last March, the company was tasked to take over solid waste manamegemt in the Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) and Ampang Jaya Municipal Councl (MPAJ).

Initially, complaints in MPS were 1,249 but it went down to 85 last July, and in MPAJ, it reduced from 227 in March to six.
