PETALING JAYA, AUG 15: Sekolah Menengah Jenis Kebangsaan (SMJK) Katholik, Seksyen 10’s effort to run a recycling project is consistent with the aim to turn the area into a green community.

Bukit Gasing Assemblyman, R. Rajiv said the school’s involvement in such initiatives deserves praise and the Bukit Gasing Community Centre will continue to work together with them to make it a success.

“I am very proud with the effort undertaken by the school’s management and by giving the recycling bins, hopefully it will encourage students who use biodegradable items such as papers, plastics and so on, to use them.

“It is a good start for this school in recycling programmes,” he said after the ceremony where nine recycling bins were handed over to the school.

He said, SMJK Katholik is the first school that receives the contribution from PKM Bukit Gasing and he is prepared to assist other schools or parties who require similar assistance for recycling projects.

He said, the step taken by the school is in line with Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) who have started collecting waste and recycled items separately since August.

“MBPJ has started it in Seksyen 10 and this is the second section after Seksyen 11 in this area.

“The school’s participation in such programmes enhances the effort to make Seksyen 10 as a green community,” he said.

Meanwhile, SMJK Katholik Parents Teachers’ Association Chairman, Han Chuan Chour expressed appreciation to Rajiv who is willing to assist with the contribution.

“We run this programme to give awareness to the students on recycling campaigns and creating a cleaner environment.

“To make it happen and to foster their interests, we will mobilise the campaign to make the best use of these bins,” he said.
