PETALING JAYA, AUG 10: The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) is offering RM6 a crow in its 2017 Crow Shooting Campaign, on August 5,6,26 and 27, from 6.30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Media Secretariat, MBPJ Corporate Communications Unit informed that the rate is higher compared to RM5 offered last year.
It said, the campaign aims to reduce crow population which often brings health issues and dirty building premises and businesses around Petaling Jaya.
“This is a pest to residents where these birds will scatter rubbish bags and dirty the area as well as bird faeces problems.
“It is also a nuisance to visitors in public places such as playgrounds, recreational parks and night markets.
“For your information, MBPJ received 22 complaints regarding crow in 2012, 28 (2013), 33 (2014), 30 (2015), 14 (2016) and 12 until last July,” he said.
At the same time, MBPJ said, only individuals with firearm license and additional hunting condition are allowed to participate in this operation as set by the police.
This campaign does not allow participants at any expense to shoot in public places such as schools, mosques, churches, temples and hospitals.
During the campaign, participants are provided the campaign vest and identification as well as an A3-sized vehicle sticker with “Operasi Kempen Tembak Gagak” written on it.
In 2016, 3,859 birds were shot and MBPJ paid RM19,295.00 to 39 shooters.
